The Angela Bassett Award for Excellence

When it comes to performers, athletes, singers, actors, etc., we use superlatives to describe what they do. I have no superlatives to describe Angela Bassett. When you look at her the performance history, what you see is an actor that has played some of the most iconic Black women of our time.  Tina Turner, Dr. Betty Shabazz, Katherine Jackson, Rosa Parks, and Coretta Scott King.  And we must also give props to her role as Queen Ramonda in the Black Panther movies.

There is no doubt that Ms Bassett deserves all of the accolades that have been, and will be bestowed upon her stellar career.  I don’t know how the legacy of her work will be enshrined, but, if in the future, an actor gives an “Angela Bassett” type performance, and is recognized for such, then the award for that performance should be named accordingly.

The  Love, Peace, and Joy we celebrate during the holiday season all emanate from our Emotional Heart.  It is the Emotional Heart that allows us to Love; gives us Peace; and fills us with Joy.  So it is important to nurture the Emotional Heart so that we are fulfilled, not only during this season, but beyond.  But there are two other types of heart that also need nurturing and care.

First, and foremost, we have to take care of the Physical Heart.  This is particularly important for our grandmothers, mothers, aunts, sisters, nieces, and granddaughters that we love.  Heart disease is devasting to women, and so we need to do all we can to bring about more awareness.  Lessons to be learned include ways to reduce stress, ways to increase exercise and activity, and ways to eat healthier.

The third type of heart that also requires continual maintenance is the Inspirational Heart.  It is the Inspirational Heart that connects us to loved ones; the family and friends who bring meaning to our lives.  It is the Inspirational Heart that defines our purpose and determines why our existence is this realm matters.

So as we celebrate the Love, Peace, and Joy that the Emotional Heart gives us during the holiday season, let’s not forget to take care of the Physical Heart and the Inspirational Heart so that we are around to celebrate many more seasons.

Happy Holidays from and the movie, “Love Never Was the Issue- Episode Three: The Heart of the Matter”.
